Fred Anderson Jr.

Fred was born 1966 at Rivers Inlet, BC, a village situated just east of the northern tip of Vancouver Island. Fred belongs to
Heiltsuk/Wuikinuxv Nation Tribe of Bella-Bella, BC. Traditional art has always been a part of his life and is now a major tool in
his healing journey. Fred believes that success and happiness is something you attract by the person you become along the
way. His art is a direct reflection or manifestation of his spirit. All of Fred’s designs have a story incorporating culture with
spiritual development; it encourages those to reach deeper and gain more from life
Fred est né en 1966 à Rivers Inlet, un village situé à l’est de la pointe nord de l’île de Vancouver. “L’ art traditionnel a toujours
été une partie de ma vie d’aussi loin que je me souvienne et maintenant c’est un outil majeur dans ma quête de ressourcement.
Je crois que le succès et le bonheur est quelque chose que vous attirez par la personne que vous devenez au long du chemin,
et mon art est un reflet direct ou une manifestation de votre propre esprit. Toutes mes créations ont une histoire d’ intégration
de la culture avec le développement spirituel comme un moyen d’encourager ceux à atteindre une vie plus profonde ou mieux
la capter. Après tout, l’encouragement est une essence spirituelle.
Arnaqu Ashevak

Arnaquq is an adopted son of the noted artists Kenojuak Ashevak and Johnniebo Ashevak. He began carving in the early
1980s. In 1990, he started working as an assistant printmaker for the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, which inspired
him to make the drawings that led to recognition as a graphic artist. He is more widely known as a carver and enjoys
making fanciful constructions that use a variety of materials. He first exhibited as a printmaker in 1982, and as a sculptor
two years later.
Arnaquq est le fils adoptif des artistes de renom Kenojuak Ashevak et Johnniebo Ashevak. Il a commencé à sculpter au début
des années 1980. En 1990, il a commencé à travailler en tant qu’assistant graveur pour la West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative, ce
qui l’a inspiré à réaliser les dessins qui ont conduit à sa reconnaissance en tant qu’artiste graphique. Il est plus connu en tant
que sculpteur et aime fabriquer des constructions fantaisistes utilisant une variété de matériaux. Il expose pour la première
fois en tant que graveur en 1982 et en tant que sculpteur deux ans plus tard.
Kenojuak Ashevak

Kenojuak first began experimenting with drawing and stone carving in the late 1950s. Her early work appeared in the
Cape Dorset Annual Graphics Collections, launching a career that would include numerous national and international
commissions, special projects and exhibitions. Her life and art have been the subject of a film produced by the National
Film Board of Canada, and a book entitled “Graphic Arts of the Inuit: Kenojuak”, published in 1981.
Mme Ashevak a commencé à se familiariser avec le dessin et la sculpture sur pierre vers la fin des années1950. Ses premières
œuvre ont été présentées dans le cadre des Collections d’art graphique de Cap Dorset, et ont lancé une carrière qui compte
de nombreuses commandes nationales et internationales, des expositions et des projets spéciaux. Sa vie et son art ont fait
l’object d’un film produit par l’Office national du film du Canada, et d’une livre intitulé Graphic Arts of the Inuit: Kenojuak,
publié en 1981.
